a skinflint

Ich bekomme One Word a Day von Paul Smith zugeschickt. Gestern also: skinflint. Definition: a person who hates to spend money. German translation: skinflint = der Geizhals

Das Beispiel dann ist sehr schön:

The party had two historic weaknesses, and Margaret Thatcher added to both of them. The fact is, they are seen as the SKINFLINT party, always saying 'no' to desirable public expenditure, full of politicians who are never happier than when telling hungry sheep about the price of grass. (adapted from The Spectator)
